For Physicians and Maternity Care Providers

Physician Breastfeeding Guide

72-page guide to breastfeeding for family physicians, obstetrician-gynecologists and paediatricians, midwives, nurses and nurse practitioners, doulas and other maternity care providers, with a focus on the Interior Health region of British Columbia, with information relevant to all maternity care providers across Canada and the world. It has been developed over the past 5 years with intensive collaboration of about 50 health care providers. A primary goal of this Guide is to enhance physician and maternity care provider involvement in breastfeeding care, and to increase their role as advocates. It is user-friendly with charts, photographs and graphics. The Guide addresses prenatal, 0-72 hours after birth, and postnatal concerns. It has the latest information about breastfeeding and is a needed advocacy tool to enhance physician involvement in breastfeeding care.

I think it is very useful to have this manual as physicians do not get a tremendous amount of breastfeeding education.
